New Business
1.
Election of officers. John Medley made an
emotional speech and basically stated he would
like to step down. And in so doing he nominated
Bill Tolbert as his successor. The results of
the election are as follows:
President - Bill Tolbert
1st Vice President - Stan Gillaspie
2nd Vice President - Tom Ward
Secretary/Treasurer - Harry Miller
2.
Reunion in Tacoma. Bill Tolbert gave us a very
detailed update on the proposed plans for the
reunion. He also emphasized that everything at
this point was just a proposal. Nothing had
been set in stone.
a.
First
item was HELP. Any and all help will be
appreciated from ideas to manual labor. Of
course, most of the work cannot be done until a
few days before the start date. Secretary Note:
There were many of the members who stated they
would come up a couple of days early if they
could be of help.
b.
Dates: September 8-11, 2010.
c.
Committees: Committee leaders have been
established. Additional planning meetings have
been set to discuss progress.
d.
Hotel: Cost runs about $160 per night. We are
trying to get lower rates, but the hotels that
offer the lower rates do not have the other
amenities that we need, such as sufficient space
for the Hospitality Room, Banquet room, etc. We
will do everything possible to reduce the out of
pocket expense to the members to include
possible corporate sponsorship from some of the
local businesses, raffles, etc.
e.
Color
Guard will be provided by Ft Lewis. We will
also have the band from Ft Lewis. Bill asked
that we need to consider wearing Dress Blues at
the formal Banquet for those who wish to do so.
f.
Activities: The main activity will be a tour
and dinner at the Blake Island Indian Village.
Of course, the will the bridge tournament.
There will also be a new event for this reunion
since the NCO’s are hosting – a pinochle
tournament.
g.
Tours: There are many possibilities and will be
narrowed down to two or three by the planning
committee. Bill is asking his committee to
survey the membership to see which draw the most
interest.
h.
Cruise: RAFINO is planning a cruise to Alaska
immediately following the reunion. Dates are
September 12-19, 2010. Details to be furnished
as they become available.
i.
Day
Care: Families brought children to Branson.
This was a first, so we will make every effort
to accommodate those families who bring children
to Tacoma.
j.
Travel Cost: Bill is trying to arrange shuttle
service to and from the airport for the
attendees who do not wish to rent a car. More
information as it becomes available.
k.
Spouses: Many of the better ideas come from
the spouses. That is one reason Bill wants to
survey the memberships of both RAFINCO and
RAFINO about the tours and other activities they
would like to see.
l.
Pictures: At the formal banquet, COL Wallace
said he could not take the pictures any more.
Sheldon Warrick volunteered to be the official
photographer in Tacoma.
m.
Unique Items: Bill asked for ideas for
something special we could present to the
attendees such as a coin like RAFINO handed out
in Branson. He asked that they be sent to him
so he can pass them along to his committees.
3.
Financial Statement. The RAFINCO financial
statement was discussed and approved by the
membership.
4.
Website. The membership asked if our website
could be published in the Army Echoes. The
Secretary will follow up on this to see if the
publisher will include it.
5.
Help. Any and all help with the reunion is
welcome.
6.
Spouses: A question was asked about spouses
attending the business meetings. Spouses are
welcome to attend and participate is
discussions. We also welcome their ideas.
